Diaper Parties

Christine ~ Dublin, CA

About

christineAlong with my family (husband, step-son, step-daughter, and 2 daughters), I live in Dublin, CA My first love is music and will play it any chance I get. My second love is science. I have a BS in biology and chemistry and currently work as a staff scientist at a local biotech company. But I would do almost anything to be a stay-at-home-mom and raise my daughters. In our spare time, our family likes to either play music together or go enjoy nature. The bay area has so many wonderful and free parks to enjoy that we feel guilty if we just stay at home. I love to go out and hike and take photos of nature and my family

When my oldest daughter was about 9 months old (and the same time I found out I was pregnant again), in an attempt to trim our budget and really save some cash, my husband and I looked into cloth diapers. He was very hesitant at first because all he knew were pre-folds and plastic pants. He heard horror stories of leaky diapers. And because we were part-time co-sleepers, he was hesitant to have a baby with a leaky diaper in our bed. But I promised him that cloth diapers had come a long way from what our parents used. He told me to do the research and we'd go from there. I found the cloth diapering folder on my pregnancy forum and started researching and asking questions. I tried to find some diaper stores in the area, but there are none. That really surprised me, being that we live in a very green-conscious state and very crunchy region.

When I finally got my hands on the cloth diapers, I immediately fell in love with the cuteness and the fluff. The soft fabric. The coordinating colors. I was hooked. My husband was not convinced as easily, but he was willing to try. With several nights of no leaky diapers and being able to change her diapers, my husband was on board with using them. it meant we could save $10/week at the grocery store. And it meant that we didn't need to stock up on more trash for the new baby

I heard about diaperparties through a friend. I knew that I wanted to be a rep. I wanted to get the word out. Break down all the misconceptions of cloth diapers and disposables. And with so few stores in my area, I knew that being someone who could carry around the physical product and let people touch and feel the diapers themselves, more people would be willing to try cloth.
